WHAT IS A TOURISM CONSULTANT?

The phrase 'Tourism Consultant' is highly overused. Check the boxes. The following is the basic requirements. Mostly importantly is 'Success' in the outcomes. A Senior Tourism Consultant is a highly experienced professional who provides expert advice and guidance in the field of tourism. They possess extensive knowledge and expertise in the tourism industry and are capable of offering strategic insights and solutions to businesses, organizations, and government bodies involved in the tourism sector. The primary role of a Senior Tourism Consultant is to assist clients in optimizing their tourism-related activities. They may work with a range of stakeholders, including hotels, resorts, travel agencies, tour operators, destination management organizations (DMOs), and government tourism boards. They should be able to demonstrate hands-on experience in a number of Tourism directed venues where ever possible. Reliance on theory and modeling is a far less reliable source of execution. A combination makes for a realistic, practical, logical approach to determining winning solutions. SEMI-RETIRED

BOB WAS THERE! BEYOND THE PERIMETERS OF TOURISM 'FIRSTS', YET ALWAYS RELATED.............................................................................
Technology, the exciting new ride for Tourism Marketing and it's future success in the Mid - 70's.
Bob was highly instrumental in a number of founding and/or front end technology engagements.
From the beginning of the desk top computer and the introduction of the Internet, Bob found himself with amazingly talented colleagues and introductions to Start Up ventures that became highly successful models in change. As the computer age rolled out.................
Examples:
During the Government R & D Tax Credit era 1984, Bob was instrumental in creating a single IBM desk top computer to run 8 screens at the same time with different dynamic content. This transformed into Kiosks with touch screen surfaces with both video and still frame content on laser discs, overlayed with dynamic graphics allowing for information changes, price changes, etc that the vendor could do remotely over a telephone line. You could enquire, and or buy tickets etc. from the Unit. Data collection was paramount. It was a perfect collection device.

Said Kiosks were a world first and were displayed in Tourism Vancouver offices as well as the Eaton Department store chain. Bob took this technology melding it with a larger Tech team including Dr John Madden, and Mike Horsey and Grace McCarthy for the British Columbia Government Tourism Ministry,  David Podmor and Jimmy Pattison, creating the framework for the EXPO 86 BC Pavilion as a multitasking visual showcase to the world, provincial tourism offerings. As Project Director Bob brought together from beginning to end the complete production and established the groundwork for other technology company's to further this line of process. Robert's Travelvision was an International success. It was later shown at the Waldorf Astoria in New York to the infamous Khashogi family interests developing across America.

Bob was also responsible for developing the first ever Automated Self Ticketing Kiosk for airline ticketing. The Prototype was sold to larger players in Japan and Korea looking at world roll out.
Bob was at the front end of extremely high speed servers for the fledgling Internet that could cut through the clutter and deliver packets of data swiftly and efficiently.
Bob was also at the front line of development with Online Video delivering
26 FPS while rivals were still unable to get past choppy 12 - 15 FPS. The science was sold to American interests. Most of these technologies engaged John Sokol, Scientist and Mike Myers Entertainment Lawyer out of the Movie Industry, Hollywood.

Bob, with the South Korea Inventor William Bang developed a Waste Plastic Burner that was designed for the Agricultural Community. All plastic waste is burned at such a temperature there was no noxious gases or toxic waste escape. GR Tech in concert with PENN STATE highlighted the working technology on PENN STATE Agricultural Dept grounds. Eventually the young technology was partnered with China and is currently active in South Korea and China.

All of these 'FIRSTS' were accomplished in part by being in the right place, at the right time. With many successes this is certainly a reality.

Bob was also selected to be Executive Director Karate BC heading up over 4,500 students province wide.  This following on the only other such position held by the legendary James Johnson since the organizations inception. The object was assess direction, partners, finances, et al, the organization logistics etc. following James retirement. A hard man to follow.
Bob  changed the face of the organization with such inovations as  trophies being rethought and where he created a key system Membership ID and the unique Unichuck design currently topping all major trophies awarded in Karate BC. Bob further spearheaded a Senior Level Symposium to develop a 5 year plan going forward. The outcome has proven highly successful in establishing financial stability and focus on numerous upgrades to meet long term goals for Olympic entry.

Bob took on the unique challenge as Managing Director for the Elite Ravenhill Security Group. Ravenhill conducted dangerous actions worldwide including Oil Security, Extraction, Surveillance and much more. The company only engaged ex Canada Military and ex RCMP providing highly trained units traveling to extremely unsafe locations and exercising action in difficult situations. Training of Police as well as Body Guard Professionals worldwide complimented Hard Core Missions. After  5 years the Company changed Mission Statement and Bob retired from Ravenhill returning to Tourism and Public Company developments.

In Semi-Retirement, Bob continues to Mentor and provide input into various projects that come his way. As Tourism went into a tailspin with the Covid-19 Virus unleashed on the World by China in 2019 Bob saw a World Class Industry destroyed and still on ventilators. The devastation put on Travel will forever change the way future Travel will be, however, it will not stop it. Chances are it will rebound ten fold as pent up emotion will break through going forward. The actual servicing of customers will change via new technologies on the horizon. Much of this change will be to reduce the costs yet an attempt to fulfil stellar Customer interaction. The Metaverse will play a big part.

With Semi-Retirement, real decisions to reduce Tourism to a minimum have been executed. Working towards ONLINE RETAILING. An old guy can better handle this than trekking over waterfalls and splashing in Anaconda filled waters.
Oh yes. CRYPTO CRAZY. Still young enough to learn the newest growing financial instrument. CRYPTO, NFT's & Moonshining. Great futures, especially Moonshining. Wink Wink.
